Christmas Last (What A Long Strange Trip It's Been)

Christmas Last (What A Long Strange Trip It's Been)

Today, on this Christmas Eve, I am reminded of an urgent message that I must pass on to you. You've heard it before, but I hope you will pause for a moment and listen again.

Here is the message: Love your life. Love every second of it, because you don't know how long you will have it.

And the corollary to that message: Love those around you, cherish every moment with them, because you don't know how long you will have them.

This year we experienced the passing of several friends before their time. This day before Christmas we received a profound gift, the privilege and honor of photographing a family for the last time. One of them is terminally ill with only a few days left, or so the doctors say.

We didn't know this family, but in the span of a few minutes we came to know them a little as they shared some of their stories and experiences. They gave us snapshots of life as we made photographs for them.

We want them to know how much we appreciate spending some time with them - their most precious time. We laughed and we cried a little. It was a meaningful experience, a timely reminder.

Love your life.
