Silent Night

It's rare that we get a few inches of snow here in St. George. It started snowing in the afternoon, but nothing stuck until evening when it cooled some. What I love about snow at night is the silence and the light. You can hear the snowflakes if you listen carefully, but it's quieter than a bowl of rice krispies. And the light -- it is like a moonscape, the blanket of white chasing the darkness away, with the contrast all evened out. So I just had to go for a walk after midnight.

Yeah it is pretty funny. To put it in perspective, though, it's just a matter of preparation and expectation. We aren't invested in snow gear since snow is such a rarity. Snow plows? Nope. Snow shovels? Don't own one. Snow tires? Er, no. Chains? Noooo. Hockey sticks? What?
On the plus side, I was able to go for my midnight snow walk wearing jeans, sneakers and a sweatshirt. Maybe you guys should fly south for the winter!
