Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather

Liesl and Lane got real lucky with the weather. Sometimes the wind blows and it may look, feel and smell like rain, but it just turns out to be a dramatic breeze, a beautiful sky and some nice, warm light. Go figure.

Ok, here's the big secret: ALL of my images are processed through Photoshop. Would it look like this if you were standing there with me? No, our eyes don't work like cameras.

Photoshop is only one of the tools I used. I added my own strobes to the scene because my subjects, the bride and groom, were not in good light (you can see a sliver of sunlight raking across the ground in the background and the top of the temple). I also intentionally underexposed the background when exposing the image to enhance the colors and saturation. Those were creative decisions made at the time of exposure that gave me a good base image to work from; it was a strong image straight out of the camera. In Photoshop I warmed the colors, cranked the saturation and did some selective dodging and burning -- but I pretty much do that with all of my photographs.

I often cite this Ansel Adams quote (paraphrased here): the negative (or in this case the camera file) is the sheet music, the print (what you see above) is the performance of the sheet music.
